Why Sashawhyy?

While studying Mass Communications & Journalism in my Bachelors, I learnt about 5W1H, a fantastic method used to compile information.
The 5 W’s are; Who, What, When, Where and Why, and the 1 H is for How. These questions are able to create a basic structure for gathering information or solving problems. When creating my website and instagram, I began going through these questions to come up with a name.

I asked myself which question most defines me and the work I do as a contemporary artist. ‘Who’, ‘When’, and ‘Where’ are too specific.
‘What is it?’ is a great question, but it only skims the surface. It is the first question you ask, and also, the easiest to answer.

‘How?’ is a question that inspires curiosity. It is definitely a layer deeper. When we know how someone does something, we are definitely more inspired to buy from them. But it is limiting, because once we know how something is done, the inspiration dies out. Like a magic trick, once you know the trick, it ceases to amaze you.

Simon Sinek describes a concept he calls “The Golden Circle” in his book, ‘Start With Why‘. At the core of this golden circle is the question Why, followed by How and lastly What.

People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it. The question ‘what?’ doesn’t drive behaviour, the question ‘why?’ does. The goal of this website and my communications isn’t to reach every person who needs what I have, it is to create a community of people who believe in what I believe . This community is built by the people who ask the question ‘Why?’.

Growing up I was often told that I ask too many questions. Thankfully, I was surrounded by supportive people who encouraged me to continue questioning. Sashawhyy continues this exploration.

Why is the core, if you understand why, you can build outwards safely. Why is the question children often fixate on. You may have dealt with many “but why?” instances in the past from children. Now, you can ask yourself once more…
